Every teacher has the ability to build a relationship with every student in their class, and it starts with being authentic and being genuine.
It is important for teachers to connect with students and build a classroom community from a distance.
We can cultivate strong teacher-student relationships if we pause and reflect:
- Pay attention: look for changes in disposition, behavior or habits
- Ask questions: uncover the specifics behind why this change is occurring
- Use your expertise: determine if other adults should be involved (school psychologist, principal, parent)
- Show genuine interest: show the student that their wellbeing is important to you
- Evaluate the circumstances: review all of the evidence to determine a plan of action
- Reach out: create a team of support for the student (teachers, coaches, counselors)
- Extend a helping hand: provide direct support to the student
- Assume the best: presume positive intentions
- Create opportunities: connect the student to opportunities within and outside the classroom
- Tap into their greatness: set the student up for success by building on their interests and strengths
Indeed, we need to spend time to get to know our students on a deeper level. Once they feel a strong relationship with the teacher, the classroom begins to form a family bond unit and everything else falls into place. They will give their best because they are home!
It is important that teachers support the whole-child and seek to build authentic relationships with their families and students.
Teachers and Parents are partners must expand to every school. The intervention encourages collaborative relationships between teachers and parents to improve students' social, behavioral, and academic outcomes.
There is a direct correlation between student engagement and teacher student relationship. Studies show that purpose development in youth is motivated by the meaningful relationships in their life! No significant learning occurs without a significant relationship.
The trust and faith shared between the teacher and student allows the most genuine learning to take place. Our focus is to make every child feel comfortable in their surrounding and feel a sense of achievement. Teachers have the opportunity to make real systemic changes in schools so every child can thrive in the classroom and beyond.
We need to create new relationships that elevate the voices of students and families. We need to consider hosting virtual or in-person events through faith-based organizations and community groups at the start of the new school year.
Indeed maintaining good student teacher relationship is an all-around winning plan to create an environment where real learning can take place.
