Blended Learning

Synchronous learning is face to face learning conducted in real time.

Asynchronous learning is taking place at a student's pace? Learning can take place anytime, anywhere (home).

Blended learning is a term increasingly used to describe the way eLearning is being combined with traditional classroom methods and independent study to create a new, hybrid teaching methodology.

Teachers are ready to offer active blended learning solutions for all the students in 2020.

Blended learning is an approach to education that combines online educational materials and traditional face-to-face methods. Indeed, blended learning is praised as the best of both worlds.

Technology is undeniable changing the face of education, and it's easy to see the impact already. 

  • 91% of teachers have computers in their classrooms
  • 81% of teachers believe tablets enrich classroom learning
  • 6 in 10 students have used a digital textbook
  • 86% of students believe they study more efficiently with tablets
  • 1 in 5 students have used a mobile app to keep their coursework organised
  • over 65% of education institutions count online learning as critical for long-term educational success
They are 5 ways to support Remote learning:
  1. Teaching quality is more important than how lessons are delivered; we need to support teachers to provide high quality instruction.
  2. Ensure all pupils can access technology; we need to support teachers and pupils to know how to use the digital platforms.
  3. Peer interactions can provide motivation and improve learning; we need to create structures that allow learners to interact with each other and build human connection.
  4. Supporting pupils' independent working can improve outcomes; we need to share strategies and explicitly teach pupils how to work on their own without outside help.
  5. Different types of remote learning suit different purposes and pupils; we need to explore synchronous, flipped, asynchronous, apps, and other digital approaches to see how it matches content and learner.
We have to get comfortable with the changing landscape of education, because change is the only constant.

In our school, we are excited to be providing blended learning models and positive educational experience supported by a range of technologies for our students. 

Blended learning is a combination of learning at a distance using technology in varying degrees and the traditional on-campus learning (in a classroom). The online component can be delivered through both synchronous modes and asynchronous modes, where students learn in different locations at different times. Basically, there will be a fixed schedule where you will have to attend a part of the classes on campus (those with practical and skills components).

Indeed, online and blended learning will become more important over the years. Therefore, learning about the strengths and weaknesses, and good design principles, of online learning should be a necessary part of the teacher training.

In our school, we will be introducing a blended learning approach, which combines a blend of online and on-campus delivery. It will ensure that students receive good experiences, interaction with other students and academics, and high-quality education.
